14 Jul 34 What to do when your bird picks favorites
Everyone has preferences, and our birds and other animals are no different. From Amazon Parrots, African Greys, to ravens and Turkey Vultures, the birds that we work with make no bones about it when they have chosen a favorite. Sometimes it is harmless and maybe just causes a bit of hit to our pride (been there!). Other times, a bird with a strong pair bond can be quite dangerous.
In this episode, we discuss how using different choice-based procedures of both positive and negative reinforcement principles can help your family or your team of trainers create stronger relationships. We talk about how to avoid the problem in the first place as well as useful strategies and environmental management scenarios to help our animals create less stressful interactions.
